Men Finish 1st and Women 2nd at Bismarck State College Open

Tom Weikle Leads Blue Hawk Men to Victory!

Despite it being a very windy day at the Bismarck State College Open the Blue Hawk Golf Teams had an impressive showing of their abilities. The men’s team came charging out of the gate, in the first nine holes, to establish a lead that held on through the last nine. They defeated conference rivals Minot State University, Jamestown College, and Valley City State University. The Blue Hawks scored an amazing 306 as a team and had senior Tom Weikle in the top five finishers. Weikle shot solid all day long and finished a par 72 with a final score of 76. Other Blue Hawk Men finishers were Kyle Chan 77, Tony Elliot 78, Brian Quintus 75, and Kody Harper 79.
The Dickinson State University Women’s team narrowly missed winning first place, but had a good showing and won second. The team finished the par 72 with a score of 363 and was led by Sophomore Caitlin Hurlock’s fifth place finish (88). She was closely followed by her teammates; Kelsey Boedecker 89, Lana Scott 89, Paige Kamminga 97, and Brittney Backen 97.
The teams have a very quick turn around time this week as they travel to Valley City State University Sunday, September 12th- Monday, September 13th. This will be the first official Dakota Athletic Conference events of the fall season.
Blue Hawk Golf Travels Short Distance to Play in Bismark State College Open

The Dickinson State University men’s and women’s golf teams will be taking the short drive over to play at the Bismark State College Open Wednesday, September 8th. The Mystics Open will be held at the Prairie West Golf Course and, in addition to Dickinson State, will host two other Dakota Athletic Conference teams; Minot State University and Valley City State University.
Last week the Blue Hawk women’s golf team won the very tough Jamestown College Jimmie Open and the men finished fifth. The women were led by Kelsey Boedeker and Caitlin Hurlock who both scored an 83 on the day and finished tied for third place. The men were led by Kody Harper’s 73 and eighth place finish.
The Blue Hawks will not have much of a break after Wednesday’s Open as they will be departing Sunday, September 12th for the Valley City State University Open.
DSU Women’s Golf Team wins Jamestown Jimmie Open; Men’s “A” Team Finishes Fourth

The Dickinson State women’s golf team started off the 2010-2011 season with a bang today winning the seven-team Jamestown College Jimmie Open. The Lady Hawks finished with a total of 342 strokes to defeat Minot State’s “A” team by 5. The Dickinson women were led by Kelsey Boedeker and Caitlin Hurlock who tied for third place individually with a score of 83. DSU’s third and fourth scorers were Lana Scott and Paige Kamminga, who each tallied 86 to tie for sixth place. Kim Waldner-Reid (90), Steph Wallace (92), and Brittney Backen (95) rounded out DSU’s women’s scoring.
DSU’s men’s team played with a split squad today. Dickinson State’s “A” team shot 296 in a close team competition to place fifth, while the Blue Hawks “B” team finished with 322 strokes. Concordia College (MN) won the competition with a team total of 286. Dickinson State’s Kody Harper led the way for the Hawks carding a 73 to finish in a tie for eighth place. Six other Hawks shot successively behind Harper with Tom Weikle and Kyle Chan carding a 74, Brian Quintus turning in a 75, Zorast Gustavsp tallying a 76 and Tony Elliot and Chandler Pender notching 77’s each. Closing out DSU’s pack were Matt Altner and Dylan Templin who shot 84 and 85, respectively.
The Blue Hawk men’s and women’s golf teams return to action on Wednesday, September 8th at the Bismarck State Invitational.
